The Balvenie 12 Doublewood

DoubleWood 12 was launched in 1993, using a process designed by David Stewart in 1982, now commonly known as a 'wood finish'.

To make The Balvenie DoubleWood, David Stewart takes whiskey that has spent at least 12 years in traditional whiskey barrels, American oak ex-bourbon casks and cedar heads, and transfers it to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for nine additional months.

The whiskey is then transferred to large oak tumblers called 'tuns' for 3-4 months to allow the whiskeys in the individual casks to 'marry'.

Traditional casks soften and add a delicate character, sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavor and the last few months in our vats allow the whiskeys to marry harmoniously.

Alcoholic degree: 40% Vol.

Bottle: 70cl.

tasting note

The whiskey has a neutral amber color where we find very marked notes of sherry and citrus (mainly orange or peach). A few drops of water will release scents of heather, vanilla, freshly cut grass and honey.

On the palate we can savor a wide variety of autumnal nuances: walnuts, honey, chestnuts, biscuits and heather. We will also notice the maturation in sherry barrels along with some soft notes of vanilla and cinnamon. With a long and smooth finish
