The Balvenie Stories 12 The Sweet Toast of American OAK

This whiskey is being launched as part of the (now not so) new series The Balvenie Stories. Matured in bourbon barrels and then finished in deeply toasted virgin American oak barrels. Alcoholic degree: 40% Vol.

Tasting Note:

Nose: Rich and malty with different citrus notes at the beginning: oranges and lime. Over time there is more vanilla and oak toast. Something green is still lurking and teasing in the back. It continues to develop in the glass. After a few minutes another wave comes, now a little spicier with cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.

Taste: Medium bodied and creamy mouthfeel. Light and medium sweet in character. Toasted oak, caramel and green notes of ripe apple and tomato.

Finish: Medium long finish. Vanilla, honey and milk chocolate. Safe toasted oak. Is that a hint of basil at the end? It's definitely something green.

Comment: A complex and impressive nose and better than average palate make for an excellent experience.
