Golden Baked, Thin and Crisp Biscuits The original form of Carr's Table Water first appeared in the late 19th century as an improvement on biscuits to be carried on ships. Using water instead of fat to mix dry ingredients helps keep biscuits fresh on long voyages, which is why Carr's biscuits have this fine, crunchy texture that was very popular with sailors. Word quickly spread to all ports, and inevitably, by 1908, the biscuits were also being offered to landlubbers in the form of Carr's Table Water. The proud tradition established by Jonathan Dodgson Carr is still baked today.
