Shortbread Felipe II

What is the story behind these coveted shortbreads?

They say that this shortbread was the delicacy offered by the Count of Benavente to Don Felipe II (King of Spain) and his beloved wife Isabel de Valois. A sweet with basic ingredients (wheat flour, icing sugar, lard and Marcona almond flour) but which make it a delicious snack. Since then it has been part of the Spanish tradition.

At the Madrid International Exposition of 1903, this sweet received the precious prize of the "Gold Medal" together with a 1st class Honorary Diploma, and since 1909 - it is the first and oldest mantecado registered ® in the Spanish office of patents and trademarks.
