Bodega Contador is the personal project of Benjamin Romeo, who after working for other Rioja wineries, such as Artadi, decides to start his own winery. It began in 1995, when he acquired a hundred-year-old cave in San Vicente de La Sonsierra, and the following year, he made his first vintage of La Cueva del Contador there with grapes from plots of family vineyards. In the following years, he bought other plots of land in the Sierra de Cantabria area and conditioned the garage of his parents' house as a warehouse. The project for the construction of the new, modern and functional winery will be inaugurated on June 21, 2008. Benjamin Romeo wines are some of the best Rioja wines, good, complex wines with great personality, which are acclaimed by critics and fans. His work philosophy that is committed to artisanal viticulture, biodynamic work on the vines in the winery, in harmony with nature.

Carmen Gran Reserva is a red wine made by Bodega Contador in Rioja with clusters of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Cariñena. The vintage with the highest score according to Robert Parker is that of 2010 with a rating of 96 points. Another well valued vintage was that of 2009 with an assessment of 96 points. Consulting the Peñín Guide, the vintage with the highest score has been that of 2009 with a rating of 94 points.

Tasting Note:

Carmen Gran Reserva is a bright, intense and dark ruby ​​red color with a high robe. It is elegant and fine on the nose with aromas of cinnamon, coconut, leather and ripe fruit. On the palate it is pleasant and sweet, with hints of cinnamon, chocolate and leather.
